Facing the Giants

Facing the Giants Theatrical PosterIn 2006 an inspirational movie came out by the name of Facing the Giants. It is a movie about Grant Taylor, a Christian high school football coach who faces personal family challenges as well as the attempt of local parents to replace him. His team, the Shiloh Eagles, never had a winning season in the six years he coached the boys. Following a visitor’s message, Grant tries to inspire his team to use faith to conquer fear and opposing teams. Following some of the expected setbacks, Coach Taylor lays it out for his team. “If we lose, we praise Him. If we win, we praise Him. In everything we do, we will give glory to God.” The “giants” for this underdog team are fear and failure. However, with faith and a driving positive attitude, the Shiloh Eagles conquer their giants and emerge champions.

We all face giants in our personal and professional lives. We all face fears and challenges that call on us to use our faith and positive mental attitude to win. During a recent family medical challenge, numerous friends approached me and expressed passionately how much difference a positive attitude can make. Keeping a positive attitude that the fears and challenges can be overcome has a significant impact on the outcome.

The children at B&GH have faced giants most of their lives. They have been forced to deal with the challenges of abuse and neglect. Even when it seems that their giants are unbeatable, we strive to give hope and encouragement where fear once lingered. Loving, caring adults help them to see the positive and begin the healing process.

We don’t always know why we have certain giants to face. But we do know that God has a plan – and if we have faith in that plan and keep a positive attitude, we too can overcome our giants and emerge champions in life.

Thank you so much for supporting our children and helping them build the faith to face – and conquer – their giants.
