Thanksgiving Gratitude

Thanksgiving is a holiday for gathering together in gratitude. Here at Boys and Girls Homes, we celebrate with a campus wide Thanksgiving dinner prior to the official holiday. While this is done strategically to allow staff to spend the actual holiday with family and friends, it also allows for an expansion of the gratitude filled celebration.

As with past Thanksgivings, I will be spending the holiday with my mom and extended family at an uncle’s home. I am grateful for this special gathering as it is often the only time my daughters get to spend with their cousins on my side of the family as we are spread out across the country.

I know that my daughters are blessed to have an extended family to care for them and enjoy the holidays together. So many children in our care are not as lucky. Children like Morgan, who has a father in prison and a mother addicted to drugs because of family influence, don’t have the support system my girls enjoy.

Thanksgiving also marks the official start of the holiday giving season. Yes, B&GH joined the #GivingTuesday global movement last year to help support our mission to serve vulnerable children. We are participating again this year and ask that you consider supporting our #GivingTuesday campaign on Nov. 27. Every bit of support makes a difference in making futures brighter for children.
