On campus, children develop social skills under the Teaching Family Model, a nationally recognized “Best Practice” behavioral program. Boys’ and girls’ cottages offer home-like settings, while teaching parents provide support as well as structure.

With each cottage accomodating up to 9 children, this lifestyle helps to provide a positive atmosphere that encourages intellectual, emotional and social growth. This model offers opportunities for our youth to learn how to live with and understand people from social, cultural and ethnic groups different from their own. Through structured activities, cottage-style living fosters appreciation and respect for differences in others while building a sense of community and cooperation.

Cottage life, in a one-of-a-kind educational environment, includes:

Recreational therapy
Therapeutic recreation provides structured activities for our youth to improve health and well being. Our goals are to build confidence, improve social interaction and reduce stress and anxiety through a range of activities such as games, arts and crafts, movement, sports and music.

Individual and group therapy
On campus, we provide weekly individual and group therapy for the children in our care. Our clinical director and social workers schedule cottage sessions that allow youth to process with one another and identify the need for various specialized groups. We also offer individual sessions by qualified, professional counselors.

World of Work program
This unique program teaches our youth on campus how to apply and interview for a job. They learn work skills by having a job on campus and earning wages.

B&GH also offers team sports, off-campus events and activities, as well as programs that teach transitional living skills.

Spiritual Development
At B&GH, we focus on the spiritual development of the children in our care because we know the value it can bring to one’s life. Our campus is home to the beautiful Leamon Rogers Memorial Chapel and we offer worship services regularly. Click here to learn about our spiritual program of care .

Career Technical Education Program
Among the educational services offered on campus, we have a career technical education program that helps provide youth valuable work and life skills.
