Partnerships Produced in Pandemics

Residential Staff wearing masks donated by TieksLake Waccamaw, NC and Beverly Hills, CA are separated by a distance of 2,578 miles according to Google Maps.  Quite frankly, there is not a lot that connects our town with that most famous of all towns.  That is until recently.

Tieks by Gavrieli is a well-known shoe company in Beverly Hills, CA.  At the beginning of the COVID pandemic they began an effort called Operation #SewTOGTHER to provide hand sewn masks to healthcare providers at a time when PPE’s were in desperately short supply.  In late spring, masks were donated to our organization from local sources and the information was shared with the Tieks company as part of the #SewTOGETHER effort and nothing more was thought of the connection.

In early August, I received an email for Jessica at Tieks asking if we as a health care providing organization still needed and would accept hand sewn masks to use for PPE’s.  She shared that someone there suggested that they send us more masks if needed.  I shared with Jessica the type of work that we do working with kids in residential and foster care.  She almost immediately put together a box of 500 hand sewn washable masks along with a hand written note of appreciation of the work that we are doing on the frontlines on behalf of children and families.

We, as an organization, want to let Jessica and the team at Tieks know how thankful we are for their support during this pandemic.  You have helped us make our organization a safer place for the children and families we serve.
