Cerro Gordo's Ricky Benton II joins B&GH Board of Trustees

November 2, 2020

Cerro Gordo’s Ricky Benton II became the newest member of the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina Board of Trustees during their quarterly meeting held virtually on Oct. 24.

“The Benton family has a long tradition of supporting the children and families served by Boys and Girls Homes,” said President Ricky Creech. “With his great love of children, immense business knowledge, connections and passion for the work of B&GH, Ricky will contribute greatly to our efforts as we find new ways to provide an environment of care where health, healing and hope are experienced every day.”

Benton is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Black’s Tire & Auto Service based out of Whiteville.

“The connection between Black’s Tire Service and B&GH goes back to our founding in 1954 when Black’s Tire founder Crowell Black came on as one of the founding trustees of Boys and Girls Homes,” President Emeritus Gary Faircloth said. “Crowell Black supported the children at Boys and Girls Homes faithfully with his time, talents, and treasures until his passing. This service is something that the Benton family has carried forward since taking over the business.”

Benton is honored to continue this effort.

“I am following our tradition of making a difference and giving back,” Benton said. “When given the opportunity, it is hard to say no to the right cause, and I can think of no better cause than right here at home. I believe in the cause and I believe in the people.”

Benton has played a huge role in the annual Black’s Tire B&GH Charity Golf Tournament that since 2002 has raise more than $1 million to support the children of B&GH.

“We are blessed to be able to bless others,” he said. “We have to make time to make a difference.”

A graduate of West Columbus High School, Benton went on to study business at Southeastern Community College and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Marketing from East Carolina University’s College of Business.

Benton and his wife Angie have four sons. Three of the four have graduated high school and enrolled in college. Benton has spent much of his down time supporting his sons’ baseball experiences at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.
